Live Studio Tool

The Shellac Cut Calculator

Pick your target cut and the volume you need โ€” the ratio updates instantly, the way it would on the bench.

๐Ÿงฎ Mix It Right, Every Time

French polishing lives or dies on the cut. A "pound cut" is the number of pounds of dry shellac flakes dissolved into one US gallon (128 fl oz) of denatured alcohol. Dial in your batch below.

Typical bench jars run 8โ€“32 fl oz. Max reference: 128 fl oz = 1 US gallon.

Our Story

Built on the bench, not in a boardroom

๐Ÿชต

We are a small crew of furniture restorers, upcyclers, and shellac obsessives who got tired of scribbling cut ratios on scrap paper and losing veneer notes between projects. WoodPillwood: Antique Restoration & Shellac started as our own workshop notebook, rebuilt as software that thinks the way a restorer's hands do.

๐ŸŽฏ

Our mission is simple: turn the fuzzy, tradition-heavy craft of French polishing and heritage preservation into a clear, repeatable process โ€” without stripping away the patience and care the work deserves. Precision should serve the craft, not replace it.

๐Ÿงฐ

Inside, you get an exact shellac-to-alcohol calculator, an offline wood species and veneer matcher, chemical stripping and curing trackers, and a private project vault for before-and-after photography, hardware registries, and finish compatibility checks โ€” all running without a single byte leaving your device.

๐Ÿชž

Every restored piece carries history forward, and getting the cut, the grain match, and the timeline right is how that history survives another century. That's the standard we build to, and the one we hope you hold your own work to.

โœจ

"Measure the cut. Respect the grain. Restore the story."

Privacy Policy

Your restoration vault stays yours

Effective Date: March 2026

WoodPillwood: Antique Restoration & Shellac was designed from the ground up as an offline studio tool. This policy explains, plainly, that the app does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data whatsoever โ€” every calculation, log entry, and photo you create stays on your device.

1Information We Collect

We collect nothing. WoodPillwood does not request names, email addresses, location data, photo libraries beyond what you manually attach to a project, device identifiers, or usage analytics. There is no sign-up, no account, and no hidden data pipe.

2How We Use Information

Because no information is ever collected, none is analyzed, profiled, aggregated, or sold. Your shellac formulas, veneer logs, and restoration photographs are used by exactly one party: you, on your own device.

3Data Storage

All project data โ€” cut calculations, drying timers, wood species notes, hardware registries, and your photo gallery โ€” is stored locally on your device's storage. Nothing is synced to a server, uploaded to a cloud bucket, or backed up to any WoodPillwood-controlled infrastructure, because no such infrastructure exists.

4Third-Party Services

WoodPillwood contains no third-party analytics kits, advertising networks, or behavioral trackers. We do not integrate software development kits that phone home, and we do not share data with partners, because there is no data to share.

5Data Security

Since your restoration vault never leaves your device, the greatest security safeguard is architectural: there is no transmission to intercept and no remote database to breach. We still recommend keeping your device's operating system updated to protect locally stored files.

6Children's Privacy

WoodPillwood does not knowingly or unknowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13. As no data collection mechanism exists anywhere in the app, WoodPillwood is inherently compliant with COPPA and equivalent children's privacy protections.

7Your Control

You are always in full control of your data. There are no accounts to manage and nothing stored outside your device. To permanently delete every project, photo, and calculation, simply uninstall the app โ€” this removes all associated local data immediately and completely.

8Changes to This Policy

Should our data practices ever change, this policy will be updated within the app and the Effective Date above will be revised accordingly. Continuing to use WoodPillwood after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

9Contact

Questions about this policy or how WoodPillwood handles (or rather, doesn't handle) data can be sent to privacy@woodpillwoodapp.com.
